COVID-19 Estate Planning

Socially Distanced Estate Planning

We’ve developed a socially distanced planning model that minimizes the risk of spreading the virus so you can complete your estate plan while helping to flatten the curve. Remote meetings can be held by phone or video conference for all but the final meeting, where laws still require in-person witnesses to your signatures, and special precautions are taken for the signing meeting. Documents are shared by email, by US mail, or securely over the internet.

Free Education and Advice Session

Learn more about estate planning, common planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney, and common estate planning objectives such as avoiding probate.

We take the time to listen about what’s important to you and what’s going on in your life because our goal is to empower you with the right plan.

Then we can make a recommendation about what kind of planning might be best for you and discuss alternatives if it’s not just the right fit.

Attorney Michael is very professional and efficient. The Will that he wrote for me was done to my satisfaction and explained so that I understood what I was signing. I highly recommend Cornerstone Law!

Here’s the process:

Interviewing and Counseling

We collect information about you, your family, and your estate preferences in order to draft your plan.

Drafting

We draft the documents, with about a week of turnaround time.

Deliver Drafts

We send rough drafts for you to review. For now we’re just asking you to check on the things you’re familiar with - is everyone’s name spelled right and is their info correct?

Schedule Review Meeting

Once you’ve reviewed the drafts, you schedule your review meeting and give us any feedback on the drafts.

Review Meeting

We go over the documents together paragraph by paragraph so you understand what’s in documents. We can use video conferencing to look at the documents together or you can use printed versions to follow along.

Final Adjustments

We’ll make any final changes after our review meeting.

Schedule a Signing

You schedule a time to come in and sign the documents. Signing meetings are limited to allow for spacing between clients and time to sanitize.

Appointment Confirmation

We’ll call the day before and a couple of hours before on the day of to make sure everyone (including our witnesses) are feeling healthy and ready to go.

Signing Meeting

You come to our office and sign the documents in a quick, socially distanced meeting.

Processing Time

We take a few days to scan, make copies, and get everything organized and filed.

Receipt of Documents

We’ll mail out the originals and a set of copies. We can also send a set of digital copies.

Relax

You’ve completed your estate plan and can now breathe easy.
